When flying to Hamilton Island you can catch a connecting boat ride with Fantasea Cruises to Daydream Island or if you choose to fly to Proserpine, the mainland terminal a shuttle bus will pick you up and take you to Shute Harbour from where you will connect with a ferry to your destination. You also have to option of travel via train or self driving to Airlie Beach.
